Hello. We are Darren Bartholomew and Saima Rasheed
Our practice includes photography, fine art printmaking, jewellery making and painting.
During the Derbyshire Open Arts weekend, as well as other other Derbyshire based events including the Artist and Designer Fairs in the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton this year, I will be showcasing my new photographic landscape work. These atmospheric depictions of local moorland employ HDR and subtle selective colouring techniques and are part of a series called 'Skys and Stones'. This work focuses on the wonderful wind sculpted gritstone formations of the Dark Peak seen through a wide lens.
My partner Saima will be showcasing Giclee prints of her miniature paintings recently exhibited at the Colombo Biennale and nominated for the prestigious Jameel Arts Prize. Her practice has its roots in the Indo-Persian tradition of miniature painting, but like many of her contemporaries, she has rejected traditional subjects for modern topical ones such as the restrictive conditions placed on women in Pakistan.
As well as this Saima will also be showcasing her line of cobalt coloured porcelain jewellery that is intricatly patterned with Islamic designs.
We are delighted that the Derbyshire Open Arts weekend will coincide with the opening of the new gallery at the Craft Barn, and to be the first exhibiting artists.
