My inspiration for my work is nature. Living in the Peak District I have some wonderful landscapes on the doorstep.  Whether it is in the UK or further afield, I am interested in drawing on nature where I have been caught by a moment, a full landscape, or it may be a particular colour, reflection, shadow or movement of a tree.  I paint in a wide variety of media. The decision about whether to choose a particular media is driven by the mood of the moment and whether I want to explore a new idea or follow on from a theme I have been working on. I look to develop a palette for a series of paintings, with a range of colours that captures the light and reflections I see in the moment and begins to express the mood and emotion of my experience.  As for technique, I’m interested in different ways of mark making and am enjoying experimenting with different techniques to explore this whether in my more impressionistic work or through abstraction.

I am interested in helping others find their creativity, as an artist. As an experienced group leader, teacher and psychotherapist I understand that our inner critic will often get in the way of creativity, expressiveness and satisfaction with our work. For some people the critic stops them from beginning.  I enjoy helping people get past these barriers to find a way to express themselves creatively and have some fun along the way and offer workshops and coaching to help with this.
